Lessons learned – the hard way

Have you ever suggested something with the pure intention of helping someone and then that person got offended and gave you gali’s instead..

Something very similar happened today.. I was surfing the net (which to some extend is a part of my job..) and came across a site which mentioned some amazing gift ideas.. so I casually noted a few ideas and sent it to our EA (executive assistant) and in the mail wrote ‘for your boss who will leave us shortly’.. (he is going to retire soon).. I couldn’t see anything wrong in the mail.. and was happy for my new good deed..

It was only after she came over to my desk and gave me gali’s (not in the literal sense) that I realized that I had goofed up with something.. after several repeated times of reading the mail I send her and coaxing Arun (my team member), that I figured the reason - the news of her boss retiring was not yet officially announced (though the entire office spoke of it..) and she didn’t want to be the source of such rumors.. hmmm

So lessons learned – never give suggestions - especially if you are new to the company, no matter how good they are or whom they help..

Reading reading and reading..

With the continuous reading for the last 20 days I am totally bored.. for the first time have I read so much in a go and that too about the dullest industry (personal opinion) in the world..

I am going a take a little caffeine break to come out from the trans and get back to my always chirpy self.. :)

Fuze.. Different individuals yet called a team..

MNC culture brings with it loads of new things to learn from.. so did jnj.. they followed a very nice system to keep the office live and happening.. and one of these initiatives was Fuze.. This was a team to bring about cross functional interaction.. We named it Fuze, with clear intentions of saying that’s it’s a fusion of different individuals and yet are team..

Our team earned different names with characteristics associated with people.. like confused, defuzed, refused and so on.. weird as they sound we enjoyed it.. (ofcourse pet names are generally given to people you like..). For me this team has been a living experience.. I met few most amazing people and here is a line or two on each..

Adi (full name to be Aditya) always hyper.. our front end for any kind of arguments and need not say he always won.. the first thing that you always heard from Adi for any kind of event proposed was a “NO”.. whatever be the reason he was the one who always helped during the odd times.. and had shortcuts ready for every occasion..

Nilesh.. other than his liking for bright colors he had this strange presence of mind and amazing writing skills.. the first thing I remember about Nilesh and fuze was his way of getting in the team – I would term it ‘forceful’ (because he managed coming in without us wanting him – no regrets for it though).. he brought with him the enthusiasm and a out of box approach..

Meenal – Also known as VP fuze.. is a totally chilled person I know.. she has no worries what so ever and can handle situations to a perfect t.. knows whom to give back and how.. I think it was the ease of working with her that brought he best in all of us..

Aruna – Simple yet with loads of ideas.. she is the one who would think logically.. we all were random thinkers but she knew exactly what would work.. if there is anyone who would be the perfect example of a good listener it ought to be aruna.. she brought with her immense patience and a totally mature outlook..

Snehal.. we call her snail (pronounced in a slight westernized accent).. though she looked dull every afternoon she was the one who would wait late to get things organized.. ofcourse we were always worried if she could handle it.. haha.. but she brought with her amazing contacts and a very personalized way of getting things done..

Nidhi.. would be difficult writing for her.. she is as spontaneous as you can think.. speaks her mind out totally.. what surprises me the most is her love for ‘the states’ (that’s where she did he studies) and their culture.. she could just go on and on discussing it.. her selection in the fuze team for her was more ‘by force than by will’.. but a totally amazing lady with brains.. :)

Ofcourse we had Meghna and Bhupi too..

But this is the team which means a lot to me today even after leaving the company.. Love you all guys.. muaahh!!

I am a month old..

Its been a month since I moved into my new company.. and think there is no one who can understand the concept of distance management better than me..

Since my very first day my entire team including my boss are in Belgium.. of course nothing to crib for as I am getting all the attention for being left out alone..
Its kind of weird, where we talk of bosses being far off, I aint liking it a wee bit..

At first it is the change in the industry that is bothering me.. I carry an experience of the healthcare industry (which is classy and organized to talk of) and here I am with a company in the Steel segment (which is dull and boring in the first look itself not to ignore totally unorganized)..

Forget only the industry front.. I also had a ‘first hand experience’ (the quote heard more than often) of getting self introduced to people.. its as strange a feeling as it sounds.. luckily work front has been all exciting and good so far..

So as they say to get a good picture you need to wait for the right time.. I am still smiling and looking forward to my team’s return.. :)

Starting notes..

I have recently shifted my job and thanks to it that I have finally found time to start blogging.. This no where means I have no work but it’s the initial days of pleasure..
